Home checks over winter

How to keep your home cosy over the colder months and ensure that everything continues to function correctly
  • Keep your home warm and cosy: Make sure your heating system is in good condition and set your thermostats and timers according to your preferences. If you have a fireplace, have it cleaned by a professional sweep. If you encounter any heating problems, please let us know as soon as possible so we can arrange for an engineer in good time.
  • Enjoy hot water anytime: Check if your immersion heater is functioning properly if you have one. This will ensure that you have hot water even if your heating system fails.
  • Protect your outdoor tap: Turn off your outdoor tap from the inside valve if possible or insulate any exposed pipe that might freeze in cold weather.
  • Prevent mould and condensation: Keep the air quality inside your home fresh and healthy by opening the trickle vents. Try to open windows whenever you can. Avoid drying clothes indoors, especially on radiators. Maintain a steady temperature inside your home to prevent condensation. Wipe down any moisture on the windows and clean any mould spots as soon as they appear.
  • Clear your gutters: Clogged gutters and downpipes can cause leaks, damage, or even dampness inside your home. To prevent this, remove any debris from your gutters and downpipes regularly.
