Taking responsibility for our planet

The part we’re playing and how you can do your bit too.

June is filled with awareness days to encourage people in the UK and Worldwide to protect our planet such as: World Environment Day, World Refill Day, World Ocean Day, World Bicycle Day and National Clean Air Day. We thought we’d take this opportunity to show the part we’re playing in supporting those initiatives and would encourage everyone to take part in as many ways as they can.

We are on a mission to plant thousands of new trees in native species to restore vital woodland habitat across our estate. Trees that we have predominantly grown from seeds and acorns collected on the estate, will be planted across our 12,000 acres. Once fully mature, they will collectively sequester 21 tonnes of CO2 per year; that's enough to offset powering 2,500 homes for the year. Speaking of homes, when crafting our new communities, we’re also including plenty of green spaces and planting trees which we hope to source from our Estate once the saplings have reached a suitable level of maturity. By offsetting your carbon when visiting us, you can help support our Green Goals. Your £5 donation will contribute to our tree planting project, which in turn will reduce CO2 emissions and help combat global warming. Offset here.

Whilst we can’t directly be responsible for the energy used in people’s homes, we are continuously considering ways in which we can support you in your efforts to reduce your costs and usage. Most recently, we’ve created a local energy impact scheme for our tenants and the wider Oxfordshire community, in partnership with Loop, to help households keep track of their energy use and reduce their collective energy consumption. On average people have already cut their usage by 16%. Sign up here to start saving.

As part of our wider business goals, we are actively trying to reduce carbon emissions and encourage the use of cycling or electric vehicles. This includes offering EV points at the Estate Office, providing an EV scheme to our employees, making sure our homes are ready for EV charging point installation, and offering a green travel discount to our visitors who walk or use these means of transport to visit us. We’ve also created a new community path that can be used for walking and cycling, as well as extending and creating cycle paths in our new communities.

We have a close partnership with Yarnton Home and Garden who supplied the beautiful garden furniture for our Park View show home. The Nassau 6-Seater Dining Set includes chairs made of maintenance-free Social Plastic - an innovative product made from recycled plastic bottles in partnership with Plastic Bank, a social enterprise that builds recycling eco-systems in under-developed communities to fight both plastic pollution in oceans, and poverty in developing countries.

We source our refillable welcome packs for the new residents at Park View from the Village Refill who have a one-stop zero-waste shop at Yarnton Home and Garden, they also use an EV van sponsored by Blenheim to deliver the refills and other zero-waste products. They’ve been so successful, and we’re pleased to share that they’ve been nominated for a Muddy Stilettos award, under the category ‘Best Sustainable Lifestyle Business’. We received a thank you message from Maya, CEO of the Village Refill saying “We couldn’t have made it to the finals without our sponsors. Pye Homes and Blenheim Palace have supported us from the very beginning, and we now have an amazing community of refill heroes of all ages. So, this award nomination is a collective achievement for us, our suppliers, and our sponsors!”
