Crafting an Inviting Hosting Space

Crafting an Inviting Hosting Space

Moving into a new build home is exciting, but the garden often feels like a blank slate that is ready for the addition of personality and functionality.

Transforming that empty space into a vibrant hosting garden doesn’t have to be overwhelming. With the right plants and thoughtful design, you can create an inviting and functional outdoor area that’s perfect for entertaining. Here are five top tips to help you get started.

Create Structure
A well-structured garden not only looks visually appealing but also helps define different zones, making your space more functional. Start by planting Red Robin trees (Photinia). These are perfect for creating privacy screens or defining the edges of your garden. Their bright red young leaves add a pop of colour that transitions to a deep green, providing year-round colour to view from your home..

Add Movement and Texture with Ornamental Grasses
Incorporating ornamental grasses is a great way to add movement, texture, and contrast to your garden. Miscanthus or Stipa gigantea are excellent choices. These grasses sway gracefully in the breeze, adding a dynamic element to your garden that softens the overall appearance.

Incorporate Colour and Scent with Lavender
No hosting garden is complete without plants that appeal to the senses. Lavender is a classic choice that adds both colour and fragrance to your garden and attract all-important pollinators. Plant it along pathways or around seating areas so guests can enjoy its calming scent as they walk or sit nearby.

Create Focal Points with Red Star Palms
To add an exotic touch and create visual interest, consider incorporating Red Star palms (Cordyline australis 'Red Star') into your garden design. Red Star palms thrive in well-drained soil and can tolerate full sun, making them a hardy option for newly built gardens. Position them near your seating area or at the entrance to your garden to draw the eye and create a memorable first impression.

Plan for Functional Hosting Areas
Finally, as you plant and design, think about how you’ll use the space for hosting. Our new homes come with a patio area, so you can consider creating different zones within your garden for dining, lounging, and socialising. Use your plants to define these areas – for example, a row of bushes can create a natural boundary around a dining area, while ornamental grasses can soften the edges of a lounging space.

By following these tips, you can transform the garden of your new build home into a lush, inviting space that’s perfect for hosting, offering the perfect backdrop for outdoor gatherings and quiet moments alike.
