Best Walks Around the Blenheim Estate Parkland in Autumn

Discover some of the most beautiful Autumnal walks around our Estate!

As Autumn arrives, the crisp air and crunchy leaves beckon us out for a scenic ramble. We’ve got you covered with a number of picturesque walks on the Blenheim Estate Parkland. All of these walks are available to those with a Palace, Park & Gardens ticket, Park & Garden’s ticket, or your Annual Pass.

Take a stroll around our beautiful Formal Gardens. At 1.5 miles, the walk will likely take around an hour. Taking you past the Temple of Diana, the place Winston Churchill proposed to his wife Clementine, you will be able to visit a memorial to his life and times. The walk will take you past the arboretum which will be a beautiful show of red and gold in the coming months. Walking across the South Lawn, you can also visit the Secret Garden and the Temple of Health. This route is accessible to wheelchairs.

Under a mile long, the Lake Walk allows you to see the Temple of Diana and then takes you further onto the Grand Cascades. Walking alongside the lake, the autumnal trees will frame your walk back towards to Palace. You will then come across the small boathouse on the edge of the water, before returning to the Lower Water Terraces.

This walk will take you over the Grand Bridge and around one of our Estate’s Site of Special Scientific Interest, Queen Pool. The smaller lake is a fantastic spot for a bit of bird watching. Take your time on the 1.5 mile walk as you meander to stop and look for Herons, Egrets Kingfishers, Great Crested Grebe or even a Wagtail or two! Please note that due to our Lake Dredge taking place, there is a closure along this walk and you will have to turn back.

If you’re looking to go out on a longer hike, head onto our 4.6 mile Park Perimeter route and wonder amongst acres of autumnal trees and foliage. Step into nature or even a story book…this walk will make you feel as if you are crossing into a Tolkein-type world with our great ancient trees and covered walkways. Be prepared to spot wild deer, muntjacs and hares along your way. Dogs are welcome on this route, but please keep them on a lead. The route is also accessible to wheelchairs.

Our new audio tour in the Formal Gardens allows you to visit the Secret Garden, wander across the South Lawn, and see the Rose Garden and the Temple of Dianna, all within an hour. Along the way you can listen to our audio guide which tells you how the garden you see today came to be.
